CAN YOU BREASTFEED WITH IMPLANTS?

If you are thinking about having breast implants in the future you may be wondering how this might affect breastfeeding in the future. If so, you’ll be pleased to learn that actually very little changes. Breastfeeding is safe and viable with breast implants in place, and neither the volume or quality of breast milk is altered. There is no evidence to suggest that silicone is transferred from the implants to breast milk, and breastfeeding from implanted breasts will not harm your baby.

What about appearance of breasts after breastfeeding with breast implants?

Breast sagging occurs as a result of stretch to skin and supportive tissues, which commonly results from weight fluctuation. Pregnancy and breastfeeding causes breast enlargement followed by a return to (approximately) the breast’s previous volume, stretch of supportive tissues and breast droop. Having had breast implants does not prevent this, and the situation could in fact be worsened by the additional starting breast weight and volume of the implants themselves. Whether you have had breast implants or not, the changes that occur to your breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding can be restored by a breast uplift procedure, but you should wait until your breast milk has dried up and your breast appearance has stabilised. This can take from 6-12 months to occur.

At Eterno 360º, we offer a wide range of breast procedures tailored to suit you, including breast augmentation, the vegan boob job, breast lifts and reductions. If you have any questions regarding breast implants and how they work after pregnancy, speak to one of our experts. To find out more, get in touch today.
